What Is Sickle Cell Disease?
Sickle cell disease is a genetic blood disorder that affects the structure of hemoglobin, causing red blood cells to take on a characteristic "sickle" shape. This abnormal shape can obstruct blood vessels, leading to pain, organ damage, and various complications for individuals living with the condition.
